Meteora, rocky Τitans !...Μετέωρα, γεωλογικοί τιτάνες!

Once you pass the city of Trikala, you will see Meteora in a distance, glimmering on the horizon, soaring up skywards like enormous petrified giants. On reaching Kalambaka follow the road that winds its way between these gigantic stone ‘towers’ and you will be overcome by an unknown sensation, that of travelling in a primordial time-space… Μόλις περάσεις την πόλη των Τρικάλων θα δεις τα Μετέωρα στο βάθος του ορίζοντα, να ορθώνονται σαν πελώριοι απολιθωμένοι γίγαντες. The famous Meteora is an area in western Thessaly region in Greece, where an ancient monastic community and a rare geological phenomenon of huge rock pillars coexist in absolute harmony. Meteora today has become one of the most popular destinations of the mainland of Greece. It’s an UNESCO World Heritage Site, an archaeological site and an officially declared holy place! At the foothills of the rock formation, you see Kastraki village, located a few kilometers away from Kalambaka city .

Οι γεωλογικές ανακατατάξεις κάποιου παλιού αρχέγονου χρόνου άφησαν εδώ στα Μετέωρα τα εντυπωσιακά σημάδια τους. Εκατοντάδες μέτρα κατακόρυφων κροκαλοπαγών πετρωμάτων σε παράδοξους σχηματισμούς ξεπετάγονται μέσα απ’ τα έγκατα της γης σαν τεράστιοι βράχινοι κορμοί με εκατοντάδες μέτρα ύψος, παραδομένοι εδώ και χιλιετίες στη διάβρωση των στοιχείων της φύσης. Τα αποκάλεσαν σπάνιο γεωλογικό φαινόμενο, τόπο του Θεού και χαρακτηρίστηκαν μνημείο UNESCO παγκόσμιας πολιτιστικής κληρονομιάς !!! Η αλήθεια είναι πως πρόκειται για δελτοειδείς κώνους που σχηματίστηκαν στην πλειόκαινο εποχή από τις αποθέσεις ενός αρχέγονου ποταμού ο οποίος χυνόταν στη λίμνη που σκέπαζε τη Θεσσαλική πεδιάδα. Μπορείτε να μείνετε, εκτός από την γειτονική πόλη Καλαμπάκα, στο χωριό Καστράκι που διατηρεί το παραδοσιακό του χρώμα και κλέβει την παράσταση, αφού κυριολεκτικά αγκαλιάζεται από τους γιγάντιους ογκόλιθους…
